Africa Cup of Nations 2021: how will the championship turn out for Kenyans?

As it became known, both the main and youth national teams of Kenya agreed to play at the KESAF Cup. The youth team held their games in September of this year and won bronze. Adults are playing now, but in fact, this is the same youth team with the addition of basic players, judging by the last interview with their head coach.

In fairness, it should be noted that in recent years, the situation with the activity of the main and other national teams of Kenya has significantly improved. Although this year was not without various cancellations of the planned games in connection with the Covid-19 epidemic, which literally paralyzed the entire sports world.

To date, in the list of matches on the FIFA website, the games of the KESAF Cup for the main national teams are marked as friendly and are taken into account when forming the world ranking.

If the World Cup qualification matches in the Kenyan national team attracted foreign players, then the Kenyans were forced to make do with local players. Yes, in general, and the other national teams observed about the same picture.

Somalia and Djibouti (teams similar to Kenya in strength, recently also showing progress) did not reach the playoffs, but for once they were able to get points and even wins.

Most of all in their group, Burundi was unlucky, losing all 4 matches. And most of all, it was Kenya that made it not only to the semifinals (for the first time since 1994), but also to the final of the competition, which has never happened in its history.

The team started the tournament with a match against Burundi, which was the first victory of the team in the last 10 years.

This was followed by 3: 0 with Djibouti, 0: 2 with Uganda, 0: 0 with Somalia and finally 4: 1 with Eritrea!

In the final, Kenya will face Uganda again. What we can expect from this match is difficult to say. But there is no doubt that the game will be spectacular and memorable.
