In the Scarlet and White rose Derby (Manchester United — Leeds), Manchester United midfielder Scott Mctominay scored the fastest double in the history of the Premier League: goals against Meslier flew in the second and third minutes (01: 07 and 02:50 – the exact time when the ball crossed the line).

The first goal was scored with a sharp one — touch shot into the bottom corner-Bruno Fernandes dragged the ball from the half-flank and rolled the oncoming Mctominay into the area in front of the penalty area. The Scot hit a low shot in one touch — the Leeds goalkeeper was in the other corner of the goal and did not even jump for the ball.

The second goal happened just as quickly — Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa had just sat down on a box of water bottles (the Argentine’s favorite spot in the coaching area) when his team fell apart again. United played a clever out: Bruno and Rashford tangled the defenders with their cross-movement, and it freed up space right down the middle. Martial got the ball there, waited for both Leeds ‘ centre-backs to advance on it, and flashed a clever pass through the opposition defence. Mctominay, who broke into the penalty area, did not leave any chances for Meslier and scored a record-fast second goal.

An amazing achievement, given the specifics of the Scottish footballer — in a profile on Whoscored, Mctominay’s position is described as a” defensive midfielder”, and this can hardly be argued with.

Scott-classic box-to-box, six. In the 2020/21 Premier League season, Mctominay missed only one game (a dizzying 2: 3 with Brighton), coming on the field in all other matches (three times-from the bench, in eight more games-in the base).

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer uses Mctominay in a pair with another Central midfielder – most often it is Fred, in a couple of matches next to Scott played Pogba, once-MATIC.

The player profile is not entirely clear: Scott creates balance in the center of the field and is not so active in attacking combinations. However, usually Scott hits either his head or from a distance — with a sufficient number of blows, their total danger is quite small: 1.59 xG in the season before last and 2.02 in the past. There are no prerequisites for this achievement — the Scot’s quick double should simply be taken as a given.
